Soft materials, colloids and nanoparticles, self-assembly, transport phenomena, electromagnetism, molecular simulation, applied mathematics

Education

Ph.D. Chemical Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 2019
B.S. Chemical Engineering, Cornell University, 2013

Zach Sherman joins Chemical Engineering this September from the University of Texas at Austin, where he has been a postdoctoral fellow in the Truskett Group. While there, Sherman worked on the self-assembly and optical properties of functional nanoparticle materials.

Sherman focuses on molecular modeling with an emphasis on accelerated electromagnetic and hydrodynamic simulation methods for soft materials. His research explores the relationship between electromagnetic fields, colloid structures, and the development of self-assembled materials. Ultimately, Sherman’s work aims to design building blocks for these materials with a number of applications, including medicine.
